Here’s How to Take Care of Dental Implants

Jul 02, 2019

Dental implants are one of the best options available for restoring missing teeth. The best thing about implants near you is that they can last for a lifetime if you take proper care of them. Just like any other restoration, they need adequate care and attention. Knowing how to keep your implants functioning at their best is important.

Types of Dental Implants

Dental implants can be classified into two categories- the permanent, non-removable implants and the implant-supported dentures. The first type consists of both single-tooth implants and implant-supported bridges. They are sometimes also referred to as ‘all on four’ or ‘all on six’ implants.

The second type of implant is just like traditional dentures, except for the fact that the restoration is supported by a series of implants placed in the patient’s jawbone. They can be removed for cleaning. They don’t need adhesive, and they never get loose on their own.

Caring for Permanent Implants

  • You must brush the restoration along with your remaining natural teeth with the help of a soft-bristle toothbrush and non-abrasive toothpaste. You must brush at least twice a day after every meal.
  • Your dentist will let you know about the correct technique for flossing your teeth so that you can keep your restoration and other teeth clean.
  • It is recommended to eat healthy food and limit the consumption of carbs, sugars, and acidic beverages.

Caring for Implant-Supported Dentures

  • The implant-supported dentures use a series of clips, locator caps, and O-rings to stay in place. You should give these components a close visual inspection daily and contact the dentist in case of any concern.
  • You must soak the product in the right cleaner.
  • You may need to replace the hardware underneath the appliance on an annual basis to keep it in top shape.
  • Always rinse the restoration before putting them back in the mouth.

Keeping It All in Perspective

Dental implants are one of the best tooth replacement options, and caring for them properly is the least you can do to keep them in good form and shape.
